Common questions

Who can connect Facebook and add pages to the workspace?

Only the workspace owner or an administrator. Managers and moderators do not see the Pages tab in Settings, so they cannot connect Facebook or add a page.

Can I connect two different Facebook accounts to one workspace?

No. One workspace holds one Facebook login, and that login covers every Facebook Page and Instagram professional account it manages. Pages under a different Facebook login need their own workspace.

Should I opt in to all current and future Pages in the Facebook dialog?

Yes, keep Opt in to all current and future Pages selected. Every Page your login manages becomes available, including Pages you create later, and you still choose which of them CommentWatchDog watches back on the Pages tab. Opt in to current Pages only makes you tick Pages one by one instead.

Does CommentWatchDog read comments on pages I have not added?

No. Nothing is read or hidden on a page you did not add. A page only starts receiving comments once you press Add on its row in Available to add and it moves into Connected pages with the Receiving comments label.

Guide: Connect Facebook and add your pages

This page: https://commentwatchdog.com/help/getting-started/connect-facebook-and-add-your-pages

Topic: Getting started

Time: about 4 minutes

Who can do it: Owner or Administrator

Author: https://anantgupta.xyz (Anant Gupta, founder of CommentWatchDog)

Start in the app: https://app.commentwatchdog.com/en/settings/pages

Result when done: At the end, your Facebook Pages and Instagram accounts are connected, each one shows Receiving comments, and new comments land in your inbox within seconds.

Context: CommentWatchDog watches the pages you tell it to. One Facebook connection covers every Facebook Page and every Instagram professional account that your Facebook login manages; you then pick which of them to add. Nothing is read or hidden on a page you did not add.

Before you start

1. You are signed in to CommentWatchDog as the workspace owner or an administrator (managers and moderators do not see the Pages tab).

2. The Facebook account you will connect manages the Pages you want to watch. Instagram accounts must be professional accounts (business or creator) linked to one of those Pages.

3. One workspace holds one Facebook login. Pages under a different Facebook login need their own workspace.

Steps

Step 1 of 9: Open Settings, then the Pages tab.

Where: On a desktop: in the left sidebar, at the very bottom, open the profile menu (the row with your name and role, bottom left) and choose Settings. Account settings opens with a row of tabs at the top; Pages is the last tab in that row. On a phone: tap the menu button at the top left (three lines), scroll the drawer to the profile row at the bottom, choose Settings, then the Pages tab in the row under the title.

You should see: A card titled Connect your Facebook account with a green Connect Facebook button. If you have nothing connected yet, the inbox shows the same button under Let's connect your Facebook, and it works the same way.

Step 2 of 9: Press Connect Facebook and choose your Pages.

Where: The green Connect Facebook button in the middle of the card. Facebook opens in the same tab; if it first asks you to continue as yourself, press Continue. The first screen is titled Choose the Pages you want CommentWatchDog to access, with two options. Keep Opt in to all current and future Pages selected: every Page your login manages becomes available, including Pages you create later, and you still choose which of them to watch back in CommentWatchDog. Opt in to current Pages only lets you tick Pages one by one instead. Press Continue at the bottom right.

You should see: The second screen, Choose the Businesses you want CommentWatchDog to access, with the same two options.

Step 3 of 9: Choose the Businesses.

Step 4 of 9: Choose the Instagram accounts.

Where: Choose the Instagram accounts you want CommentWatchDog to access covers the professional Instagram accounts linked to your Pages. Keep Opt in to all current and future Instagram accounts selected and press Continue. An Instagram account that is not linked to one of your Pages is not offered here; step 8 shows how to link it later.

You should see: The review screen, Review CommentWatchDog's access request, listing every permission.

Step 5 of 9: Review the access request and press Save.

Where: Review CommentWatchDog's access request lists what you are allowing, each line with the choice you made under it: Manage your business; Access profile and posts from the selected Instagram account; Manage comments for the selected Instagram account; Manage and access Page conversations in Messenger; Manage and access messages for the Instagram account; Manage comments on your Page; Read content posted on the Page; Manage accounts, settings, and webhooks, and access content enforcement data for a Page; Read user content on your Page; Show a list of the Pages you manage. Every line is needed: without it comments cannot be read, hidden, deleted or answered. Scroll to the end, past the note about business portfolios, and press Save.

You should see: A last screen: your name has been connected to CommentWatchDog, with a Got it button.

Step 6 of 9: Press Got it to return to CommentWatchDog.

Where: The last screen says that your name has been connected to CommentWatchDog and offers Business Integrations for managing the connection later; you will not need it, Reconnect Facebook and Disconnect Facebook live on the Pages tab. Press Got it and you are sent back to CommentWatchDog.

Screenshot: https://commentwatchdog.com/media/shots/fb-dialog-done.en.webp (The last screen: connected to CommentWatchDog, with Got it.)

You should see: Back on the Pages tab, the card is replaced by Connected as, followed by your Facebook name, with Reconnect Facebook and Disconnect Facebook next to it, and below it a section named Available to add.

Step 7 of 9: Add the pages you want to watch.

Where: Scroll to Available to add, under Page groups on the Pages tab. Each Facebook Page and Instagram account your login manages that is not watched yet has its own row: the platform mark, the name, and an Add button at the right end. Press Add on each one you want CommentWatchDog to watch; it moves up into Connected pages. From the inbox, the same list appears as Facebook is connected. Pick your pages, with up to six Add buttons inline and a link to manage all pages in Settings.

You should see: The page moves up into Connected pages with its switch on and a green Receiving comments label. It also appears in the left sidebar under Pages, and in the phone's Pages sheet.

Step 8 of 9: If an Instagram account is missing, link it to its Facebook Page and press Refresh pages.

Where: Instagram accounts join through the Facebook Page they are linked to. If one is not in the list, open Instagram, go to Settings, Business tools and controls (or Creator tools), Connect or link a Facebook Page, choose the Page, then come back to the Pages tab in CommentWatchDog and press Refresh pages, at the top right of the Available to add section.

You should see: The Instagram account appears in Available to add with the Instagram mark; press Add.

Step 9 of 9: Check that comments are arriving.

Where: Open the inbox from the top of the left sidebar (All comments) or the Comments tab of the phone's bottom bar. Each connected page also has its own workspace: click its name in the sidebar under Pages.

Link: https://app.commentwatchdog.com/en/inbox (Open the inbox)

If something is off

Problem: A page you manage is not in Available to add

Fix: In the Facebook dialog it was left out, or your Facebook account has a task-level role on it rather than full access. Press Reconnect Facebook on the Pages tab and keep Opt in to all current and future Pages; or ask a Page admin to give your Facebook account access to the Page.

Problem: An Instagram account is not in the list

Fix: It is a personal account, or it is not linked to a Facebook Page your login manages. Switch it to a professional account in Instagram's settings, link it to the Page, then press Refresh pages.

Problem: Page access wasn't allowed

Fix: The Facebook dialog was closed before finishing or the permissions were declined. Press Connect Facebook again and allow the permissions; without them comments cannot be read or hidden.

Problem: The page says Disconnected later on

Fix: Facebook access tokens expire when a password changes or after a security review on Facebook's side. An administrator presses Reconnect Facebook on the Pages tab; nothing is lost, and comments resume from the reconnection.

Problem: This page already used its free trial on another account

Fix: A page can run one free trial. Pick a plan on the Account tab and the page connects.
