Guide: Check what you know about them
This page: https://commentwatchdog.com/help/flow-conditions/check-what-you-know-about-them
Topic: Conditions
Time: about 3 minutes
Who can do it: Owner, Administrator or Manager
Author: https://anantgupta.xyz (Anant Gupta, founder of CommentWatchDog)
Start in the app: https://app.commentwatchdog.com/en/inbox
Result when done: Go one way when you have their email, phone, a tag or an answer.
Context: These checks read what is saved on the person: their email and phone number, the tags they carry, and every answer and custom field. Ask for an email only when you do not have one; send the VIP line to people tagged vip; branch on the size they chose last week.
Before you start
1. Answers come from Ask a question steps in this flow or saved before, and from custom fields.
2. People who have not answered never match a comparison.
3. Every start and both platforms.
Steps
Step 1 of 4: Open the checks under What you know about them.
Where: Add a Condition (Steps, Decide) or click one on the canvas. In its panel press Add a rule (on a fresh condition, Browse all checks). The picker opens on Most used, with the groups listed beside it: press Contact details, and its checks show under the heading What you know about them. Search checks finds one by name.

Screenshot: https://commentwatchdog.com/media/shots/dm-cond-pick-contact-phone.en.webp (On a phone: Contact details picked in the row of groups, its checks under it.)
You should see: The checks of What you know about them, each with a line on what it reads. Pick one and it joins the condition as a rule, open for its details.
Step 2 of 4: Check the email, phone or a tag.
Where: Email: Has an email, No email yet, or Email ends with… (@gmail.com or yourcompany.com). Phone number: Has a phone number, No phone number yet, or Number starts with… (+44, 0044 and 44 read the same). Tag: Tagged, or Not tagged, with the tag.
Screenshot: https://commentwatchdog.com/media/shots/dm-cond-tag.en.webp (The Tag rule open: Tagged, or Not tagged, and the tag.)
Screenshot: https://commentwatchdog.com/media/shots/dm-cond-tag-phone.en.webp (The same on a phone.)
You should see: The finished rule folds to its sentence, such as Tagged "regular".
Step 3 of 4: Compare an answer they gave.
Where: An answer they gave: under Their answer to, pick the answer (asked in this flow, or saved earlier); the comparison is the list right under it. Text: contains, doesn't contain, is exactly, is anything but, starts with, ends with, matches a pattern. Numbers: is at least, is at most, is more than, is less than, is between, is exactly, is not. Dates: is in the next or was in the last N days, is before, is after, is on. Choices: is one of, is none of. Every type: was answered, wasn't answered yet, was skipped.
Screenshot: https://commentwatchdog.com/media/shots/dm-cond-contact.en.webp (Their answer to: the answer (roast), and the comparison under it (was answered).)
Screenshot: https://commentwatchdog.com/media/shots/dm-cond-contact-phone.en.webp (The same on a phone.)
You should see: Reads as: says the comparison in plain words, such as Answered "roast" or "size" is one of Large, Medium.
Step 4 of 4: Wire the Yes and No ways.
Where: Yes (they match) goes to one step, No (everyone else) to another: drag from each dot on the step, or pick the step under Next steps in the panel. A way with no wire ends the flow there for those people.
Screenshot: https://commentwatchdog.com/media/shots/dm-node-condition.en.webp (The two ways out on the step: Yes and No.)
Screenshot: https://commentwatchdog.com/media/shots/dm-node-condition-phone.en.webp (On a phone: Yes and No under Next steps, each with the step it leads to.)
You should see: Both ways lead somewhere.
If something is off
Problem: No answers to check yet
Fix: Add an Ask a question step before the condition; its answer shows up here.
Problem: An option was renamed and the rule still works
Fix: A rule on a choice keeps following an option that was renamed. A removed option or a changed answer type is warned about.
Problem: Someone with no answer took the No way
Fix: People who have not answered never match a comparison. Use was answered, or wasn't answered yet, to check for that.
