Result when done: The spam under a running Facebook ad is gone in one job, and the real questions stay.

Context: In Ads Manager you delete comments under an ad one at a time, from each comment's menu, while new ones keep landing. Post cleanup takes the link to the post your ad runs, fetches every comment and reply, runs your moderation rules over them so the spam is a short flagged list, and deletes that list in one background job at the pace Meta allows. It works through Meta's official API: you sign in with Facebook, no password is shared, and nothing is installed in your browser. In the job log of every account: 50 delete jobs on Facebook ad posts, 1,785 comments removed, the largest 270 from one ad (job log, read 2026-09-26). Post cleanup is included from Starter, bulk delete from Growth.

Before you start

1. Comments on an ad live on the post the ad runs, so the link Post cleanup needs is the post's, not the ad's address in Ads Manager.

2. The check marks what your rules would catch and acts on nothing; Delete acts only on what you select, and Select all takes every comment in the current filter with no cap per batch.

3. Deleting is permanent and takes the replies under a comment with it. Hiding is the reversible choice, and on Facebook a hidden comment stays visible to its author and their friends.

Steps

Step 1 of 5: Copy the link to the post your ad runs.

Where: In Ads Manager, open the ad, then its preview, and choose to see the post on Facebook. Copy the link from there. Or skip the link: in the inbox, the preview icon on any comment from that ad opens the post with a Cleanup button.

You should see: A facebook.com link to the post itself, which is what the cleanup box takes.

Step 2 of 5: Paste it into Post cleanup and load the post.

Where: Tools in the left sidebar, then Post cleanup, then Load. On a phone, the Tools tab in the bottom bar. Every comment and reply under the ad is fetched; a post with thousands takes about a minute.

You should see: Every comment on the ad's post, with the counts above the list.

Step 3 of 5: Check the comments against your rules and filter to Flagged.

Where: Check comments, above the list, runs the page's moderation rules over everything fetched and marks what they would catch, with the rule on each comment: links, phone numbers, emoji strings, negativity, competitor pitches. Flagged in the filter row shows only those.

You should see: The spam in a short list, each comment with its reason. Real questions and buyers stay under Clean.

Step 4 of 5: Select all, then Delete, and confirm.

Where: Select all, above the list, takes every flagged comment however many there are. Then Delete; the confirmation shows the count and says a big job runs at Meta's pace. Choose Hide instead if you want the option to bring a comment back.

You should see: The job starts and the page shows its progress.

Step 5 of 5: Let it run, and let the rules take the next ones.

Where: A card says the job runs in the background at the pace Meta allows, with Pause, Resume and Stop. You can close the page; CommentWatchDog emails you when it finishes. The ad keeps collecting spam while it runs, so switch on the moderation rules for that Page and new comments are hidden or deleted as they land.

You should see: Done and failed counts, and a note when Meta slows it down. The largest job so far, 270 comments from one ad, took under nine minutes.

If something is off

Problem: The link is refused

Fix: It must be the link to the post the ad runs, from the ad preview or from Copy link under the post, not the ad's address in Ads Manager, not a Business Suite inbox address, and not a shortened link.

Problem: The ad is a dark post and has no link on my Page

Fix: The preview in Ads Manager still opens it as a post on Facebook, and that link works. The inbox preview icon on any of its comments is the other way in.

Problem: The check flagged a real customer

Fix: Untick that comment before Delete, or add a word from it to the Page's whitelist so the rules leave it alone from now on.

Problem: It paused by itself

Fix: Meta limits how fast actions may run. It continues on its own, and the card says roughly when.

Problem: Some comments failed

Fix: Open the task to see what Meta said for each one, usually a comment its author had already removed.

Common questions

Question: Can spam comments under a Facebook ad be deleted automatically instead of by hand?

Answer: Yes, in two layers. Post cleanup clears what is already there in one job, and the Page's moderation rules hide or delete new comments the moment they land under every ad and post, by rule and in any language. In the job log of every account, 50 delete jobs have run on Facebook ad posts and removed 1,785 comments, the largest 270 from one ad (job log, read 2026-09-26).

Question: Does it need my Facebook password or a browser extension?

Answer: No. You sign in with Facebook and CommentWatchDog works through Meta's official API on the Pages you approve; nothing is installed in your browser, and access can be removed in Facebook, Settings, then Business integrations, at any time.

Question: Does it work on dark posts and Advantage+ ads?

Answer: Yes. Every ad runs on a post, whether or not that post appears on your Page, and its comments live on that post. The ad preview in Ads Manager opens it, and that link is what Post cleanup takes. The one exception is a partnership ad on Instagram, where Meta says advertisers cannot delete comments.

Question: Should I hide or delete spam under an ad?

Answer: Delete for spam, links, phone numbers and impersonators: it is permanent and takes the replies with it. Hide for anything you may want to reconsider: on Facebook a hidden comment stays visible to its author and their friends and disappears for everyone else, and it can be unhidden later.

Question: Which plans include this?

Answer: Post cleanup, loading a post and checking it against your rules, is included from Starter. Bulk hide and delete are included from Growth; on Starter a cleanup acts on one comment at a time.
