If something is off
- Comments under my ad are not moderated
- The scope is Posts only; set it to Ads only or Both.
- A comment was caught that should have stayed
- Unhide it, whitelist the words, or switch the rule to Hide.
- An ad comment shows as organic
- A stopped ad can lose the Ad marker; the rules ran anyway.
- The spam was already there before I connected
- Old comments: paste the ad link into Post cleanup.
Common questions
Is this automatic, or do I still have to hide each comment?
Automatic. Every new comment under every ad of the Page arrives by Meta webhook, is judged by the rules you switched on, and is hidden or deleted the moment it lands. You open the inbox to read the real questions, not to hide spam.
Does it need my Facebook password or a browser extension?
No. CommentWatchDog works through Meta's official API and passed Meta's App Review. You sign in with Facebook, the password never passes through us, nothing is installed in your browser, and access can be removed in Facebook at any time.
Does it cover dark posts and Advantage+ ads, or only boosted posts?
Every ad the Page runs. Comments on ads are comments on the post the ad runs, whether that post appears on the Page's timeline or not, so dark posts and Advantage+ campaigns are covered the same way, and each comment carries the Ad marker in the inbox.
Should I hide or delete comments on my ads?
Hide for anything you might want back: it keeps the comment visible to its author and their friends, removes it for everyone else, and nobody is told. Delete for links, phone numbers and impersonators, where nobody will ever want it back. You choose per rule.
Which plans include automatic moderation of ad comments?
Every plan, from the free trial on. The keyword, link, phone, emoji and profanity rules are on every plan; custom topics, Negativity guidance and Impersonators start on Starter. One credit per incoming comment, however many rules are on.

Result when done: Spam and damaging comments under your Facebook ads are hidden or deleted the moment they land, without anyone watching Ads Manager.
Context: In Ads Manager you hide comments on an ad one at a time, and for most accounts there is no switch to turn them off. CommentWatchDog runs moderation rules on the Page that runs the ads: every new comment under every ad arrives by Meta webhook and is hidden or deleted the moment it lands if a rule matches, on dark posts and Advantage+ ads as much as on boosted posts, because all of them are ads of the Page. It works through Meta's official API: you sign in with Facebook, no password is shared, and nothing is installed in your browser. Since 2026-08-28 the rules have hidden or deleted 708 comments under Facebook ads across every account: 234 negativity, 214 links, 125 emoji-only, 45 custom topics, 26 phone numbers and emails (read 2026-09-26).
Before you start
1. The ads must run from a Facebook Page your Facebook login manages. Rules belong to the Page, and every ad the Page runs is covered.
2. Rules judge comments that arrive after you switch them on. For the comments already under an ad, Post cleanup clears them in bulk.
3. Hide is reversible and quiet. Delete is permanent. You choose per rule.
Steps
Step 1 of 5: Open the Moderation tab of the Page that runs the ads.
Where: Left sidebar, under Pages, click the Page, then the Moderation tab. Twelve rules, each a row with a switch, one line of description and an action. On a phone, the Page, then Moderation in the row under the title.

You should see: Twelve rules, each with its own switch and its own choice of Hide or Delete.
Step 2 of 5: Switch on the rules that match what lands under your ads.
Where: URLs, Emails and phone numbers, Emojis, Hashtags and Mentions catch the spam by what is in the text. Negativity, Profanity, Custom topics and Impersonators read what the comment means, in any language. Switch each one on with its switch; the rules that need your words say so.

You should see: Each rule you switch on runs on the next comment that arrives under any ad or post of the Page.
Step 3 of 5: Choose Hide or Delete on each rule.
Where: The action at the end of each row. Hide keeps the comment visible to its author and their friends and removes it for everyone else, and nobody is told. Delete removes it from Facebook for good. Hide suits criticism and anything borderline; Delete suits links, phone numbers and impersonators.

Screenshot: https://commentwatchdog.com/media/shots/moderation-phone.en.webp (The same on a phone.)
You should see: Each enabled rule shows the action it will take on a match.
Step 4 of 5: Set Apply moderation to Ads only, or Both.
Where: Under the rules. Ads only moderates the comments that came through a paid post and leaves the organic community alone. Both is the usual choice, because an old organic post still shows under the Page.

Screenshot: https://commentwatchdog.com/media/shots/moderation-whitelist-phone.en.webp (The same on a phone.)
You should see: The scope applies to every rule on the Page from the moment you save.
Step 5 of 5: Watch it work in the inbox.
Where: Filter Type to Ads. Every comment that came in through an ad carries the Ad marker; the ones a rule caught are greyed, with the rule named on the row, and Unhide brings one back if a rule was wrong.

You should see: The spam is hidden or gone before a buyer sees it, and the real questions wait for you.
If something is off
Problem: Comments under my ad are not moderated
Fix: The Page scope is Posts only. Set it to Ads only or Both. If the ad runs from a different Page, add that Page.
Problem: A comment was caught that should have stayed
Fix: Unhide it from the inbox, add the words that must survive to the Whitelist, or switch that rule to Hide so nothing is lost.
Problem: An ad comment shows as organic
Fix: Meta reports where a comment came from, and an ad that has stopped running can lose the marker. The rules ran on it either way.
Problem: The spam was already there before I connected
Fix: Rules run on new comments. Paste the ad link into Post cleanup and it fetches every comment on it for one bulk hide or delete.
