Common questions

Do I need to install anything in Shopify, WooCommerce or my store platform?

No. CommentWatchDog connects to the Facebook Page and the Instagram professional account that run your ads, through Meta's official API, and moderates the comments there. The store platform is not involved, so it works the same for a Shopify store, a WooCommerce store or a store with no website at all.

Should I hide or delete the comments that say it is cheaper on Temu?

Hide. A price comment is an opinion, hiding is reversible, and the person who wrote it still sees their comment, so nobody argues. Keep Delete for the scam replies and the fake support accounts, where nobody will ever want the comment back.

What does a buyer see after a scam reply under my ad is deleted?

Nothing. A deleted comment is gone from the ad for everyone, including its author, and CommentWatchDog keeps a record in the Bin with the rule that removed it. A hidden comment stays visible to its author and their friends and is hidden for everyone else.

Does this work on Instagram ads as well as Facebook ads?

Yes. The same rules run on the Facebook Page and on the Instagram professional account linked to it, on comments under ads and under posts, and the inbox marks a comment that came through an ad.

Result when done: The three kinds of comment that damage an online store's ads are handled by three rules, with nothing installed in the store.

Context: Under an online store's ads the comments come in three kinds: people saying it is cheaper on Temu or AliExpress, scam replies with a link or a WhatsApp number, and fake accounts posing as the store's support to reach buyers. None of them needs a word list. One custom topic catches the price comments, the Impersonators rule catches the fake support, and the URLs and Emails and phone numbers rules catch the scam replies, on the ad and on the post alike. CommentWatchDog connects to the Facebook Page and the Instagram account that run the ads, whatever the store runs on, Shopify included, and nothing is installed in the store.

Before you start

1. Nothing is installed in Shopify or any other store platform. CommentWatchDog works on the Facebook Page and the Instagram account that run the ads.

2. Hide the price comments and delete the scams: hiding is reversible, deleting is permanent.

3. The rules run under ads and under posts; Apply moderation to sets which.

Steps

Step 1 of 4: Describe the price comments as a custom topic, set to Hide.

Where: Left sidebar, Pages, the page, then the Moderation tab. Under Custom topics, type people saying the product is cheaper on another site or naming Temu, AliExpress or Amazon, and press Enter. Hide is the right action: it is an opinion, and a customer who compares prices and then buys is worth answering.

You should see: The topic as a chip. Cheaper on Temu in any wording, and any language, arrives hidden.

Step 2 of 4: Set Impersonators to Delete.

Where: The Impersonators rule on the same tab. It reads the profile name and the comment together and catches accounts posing as your store or its support, the ones that tell a buyer to message an unofficial account about their order.

You should see: Fake support comments are removed for everyone and kept in the Bin with the Impersonator label.

Step 3 of 4: Set URLs and Emails and phone numbers to Delete, and allow your own domain.

Where: Further down the tab. URLs catches every link; add your store domain under the domains to allow, so your own replies with a product link survive. Emails and phone numbers catches the WhatsApp numbers scam replies carry.

Screenshot: https://commentwatchdog.com/media/shots/moderation-text-phone.en.webp (The same on a phone.)

You should see: Every scam reply with a link or a number is deleted; your own links stay.

Step 4 of 4: Answer the real price question in private.

Where: The page's Automation tab. A word such as price, discount or shipping triggers a reply you wrote, with Send as private message on, so shipping, returns and the warranty reach the buyer in Messenger or Instagram DMs rather than in a public argument under the ad.

You should see: The buyer gets your answer privately, within the window Meta allows.

If something is off

Problem: A happy customer said it arrived faster than Temu and was hidden

Fix: The topic is too broad. Unhide the comment, narrow the topic to people saying it is cheaper elsewhere, and add the words that must survive to the Whitelist.

Problem: The scam replies come from a new account every day

Fix: The rules catch the pattern, not the account, so each new account is caught on the same link or number. Delete keeps them off the ad for everyone.

Problem: My own product link was deleted

Fix: Add your store domain under the domains to allow on the URLs rule; links to it are never touched.

Problem: I only advertise and never post

Fix: Set Apply moderation to under the rules to Ads only, or leave it on Both, since comments under old posts still show on the Page.
