Common questions

Do I need to install an app to use the inbox on my phone?

No. Everything in the inbox works in a phone browser. Installing the CommentWatchDog app adds notifications and a full screen.

Which actions does a swipe reveal on a phone?

Archive and Hide, the two actions you use most; let go on the one you want and an Undo appears for a few seconds. Press and hold a row for the full sheet: Reply, Translate, Hide, Archive, Block, Mute and Delete.

Is anything in the inbox only available on a phone?

No. Nothing is phone-only: every action on a phone also exists on a computer. The phone inbox is the same inbox folded, with the tabs as a bottom bar, the filters as a sheet, and the row actions on a swipe or a press and hold.

What is in the bottom bar of the phone app?

Comments, Messages, Pages and Tools. The Inbox, Archive and Bin tabs sit above the list with their counts, and the menu button at the top left opens pages and settings.

Guide: The inbox on a phone

This page: https://commentwatchdog.com/help/inbox/the-inbox-on-a-phone

Topic: Inbox and comments

Time: about 3 minutes

Who can do it: Anyone on your team

Author: https://anantgupta.xyz (Anant Gupta, founder of CommentWatchDog)

Start in the app: https://app.commentwatchdog.com/en/inbox

Result when done: You can clear the inbox from your phone with your thumb, as fast as at your desk.

Context: The phone inbox is the same inbox, folded. The tabs become a bottom bar, the filters become a sheet, and the row actions come to your thumb through a swipe or a press and hold.

Before you start

1. Everything on this page also works in a phone browser; installing the app adds notifications and a full screen.

2. The gestures are shown once as a hint the first time you open the inbox on a phone.

3. Nothing is phone-only: every action here exists on a computer too.

Steps

Step 1 of 4: Find your way around.

Where: The bottom bar carries Comments, Messages, Pages and Tools. The tabs for Inbox, Archive and Bin sit above the list with their counts, and the menu button at the top left opens pages and settings.

You should see: The same three tabs and the same counts as on a computer.

Step 2 of 4: Swipe a row.

Where: Swipe a comment sideways to reveal Archive and Hide, the two actions you use most. Let go on the one you want.

You should see: The action runs and an Undo appears for a few seconds.

Step 3 of 4: Press and hold for everything else.

You should see: The same actions as the desktop icon row, with their names spelled out.

Step 4 of 4: Filter from the sheet.

Where: The Filters button above the list opens page, label, visibility, type, reply state and date as a sheet. Apply keeps them while you work, exactly as on a computer.

You should see: The list narrows and the filters stay until you clear them.

If something is off

Problem: The swipe does not do anything

Fix: Swipe the row itself, not the avatar or a chip. A slow, straight sideways movement works best.

Problem: I cannot see the whole comment

Fix: Long comments are cut with See more. Tap it, or open the preview from the sheet to read the post as well.

Problem: I want notifications

Fix: Install the app from Settings, Notifications, This device, then turn notifications on there.

Problem: The gesture hint keeps coming back

Fix: It is shown once per device. A private window or cleared site data brings it back.
