Common questions
Does the AI see my API key?
No. You paste the key into a key box that puts it straight into the step, encrypted and locked. A key pasted into the chat is stopped before it is sent.
Can it read the API's documentation?
Yes. Paste a docs link, or let it search for the service's official docs; it reads them and shows each page it read as a line.
What does the AI HTTP setup cost?
About 1 AI credit per answer, plus 1 for each page it reads or search it runs, 3 for a closer look and 2 for each screenshot it reads.
Can I come back to the chat later?
Yes. The chat is kept with its step, so you can carry on days later from where you left it.

Guide: Build the request with AI
This page: https://commentwatchdog.com/help/http-requests/build-the-request-with-ai
Topic: HTTP requests
Time: about 5 minutes
Who can do it: Owner, Administrator or Manager
Author: https://anantgupta.xyz (Anant Gupta, founder of CommentWatchDog)
Start in the app: https://app.commentwatchdog.com/en/inbox
Result when done: Describe what the step should do; the AI finds the service, reads its docs, helps you get a key and tests the request for you.
Context: Set it up with AI is a chat on the HTTP request step. Describe it like you would to a friend, paste a docs link or attach a screenshot. In one message it may read a page, search for the service's official docs and test the request for real, showing each as a line, and it fills the step as it goes. Your API key never reaches the AI: you paste it into a key box that puts it straight into the step, locked. The chat is kept with the step, so you can come back days later.
Before you start
1. Setting up with AI comes with the flow builder, from Starter.
2. About 1 AI credit per answer, more when it reads docs or searches (1 each), takes a closer look (3) or reads a screenshot (2).
3. On the trial, 60 messages a day; a paid plan has no daily limit.
Steps
Step 1 of 4: Open Set it up with AI.
Where: Select the HTTP request step. On a new step, the card Set it up with AI at the top of its settings (Say what you want in your own words). On a step that already has an address, Ask AI, top right of its settings. A step Build with AI placed without an address shows its goal on the card (From Build with AI: …).

You should see: The chat Set up with AI: What should this request do?, a box, and the mode under it.
Step 2 of 4: Describe the call, with a docs link or a screenshot if you have one.
Where: Type it in the box at the bottom, paste a link to the service or its docs, or attach a screenshot with the picture button (PNG, JPG or WebP, up to four with one message). The mode, under the box: Ask before switching (checks before using another service than the one you named), Auto (picks the service itself), Bypass permissions (never stops to ask, says what it assumed).

Screenshot: https://commentwatchdog.com/media/shots/dm-http-ai-work-phone.en.webp (The same on a phone.)
You should see: A line like 2 tests passed, with how many pages it read and searches it ran when there were any; it opens to Read …, Searched for … and Tested it: …. Then its answer in plain words.
Step 3 of 4: Add your key in the key box, if the service needs one.
Where: When the service needs a key, a key box appears above the message box, named after the service (here OpenWeatherMap API key; Your API key when it has no name for it). Paste the key in Paste the key and press Add key. The key goes straight into this step, locked; the AI never sees it. A key pasted into the chat is stopped.

Screenshot: https://commentwatchdog.com/media/shots/dm-http-ai-key-phone.en.webp (The same on a phone.)
You should see: Stored encrypted on this step. The AI never sees it. Then it tests again with the key.
Step 4 of 4: Keep what you need and close.
Where: What to keep from the answer: Use as {{name}}, Save as email, Save as phone, Save as name, one click each. Then close the chat with the cross at its top (Back to the step's settings). Undo this turn, under an answer, takes back that message and what it changed; Clear, at the top of the chat, starts over.

Screenshot: https://commentwatchdog.com/media/shots/dm-http-ai-phone.en.webp (The same on a phone.)
You should see: This step is set up and tested. The settings show the request it built, which you can still change by hand.
If something is off
Problem: That looks like a key
Fix: Keys never go in the chat. Paste it in the key box below, which puts it straight into the step, locked.
Problem: The service turned the key down
Fix: The box still has the old key. Paste the new key there and press Add key.
Problem: Setting up with AI comes with the flow builder, from Starter
Fix: Move up to Starter, or fill in the step by hand, which needs no AI.
Problem: That is the most for today
Fix: The trial allows 60 messages a day. Try again tomorrow.
