Guide: A renamed page shows the old name
This page: https://commentwatchdog.com/help/pages/a-renamed-page-shows-the-old-name
Topic: Pages and connections
Time: about 2 minutes
Who can do it: Owner or Administrator
Author: https://anantgupta.xyz (Anant Gupta, founder of CommentWatchDog)
Start in the app: https://app.commentwatchdog.com/en/settings/pages
Result when done: The name you see here matches the name on Facebook.
Context: Page names are stored when a page is added and refreshed when the connection is refreshed. Renaming a page on Facebook does not push the new name here by itself.

Before you start:
1. The name is cosmetic: moderation, rules and history are unaffected.
2. Refresh pages or a reconnect updates it.
3. Comments already collected keep pointing at the same page.

Steps:
Step 1 of 2: Press Refresh pages.
Where: At the top of Available to add on the Pages tab. It asks Meta for the current list, including names.

Screenshot: https://commentwatchdog.com/media/shots/pages-available-phone.en.webp (The same on a phone.)
You should see: The new name in the list and in the sidebar after a reload.

Step 2 of 2: Reconnect if it persists.
Where: Reconnect Facebook re-reads everything, including names, and keeps all your settings.

You should see: The current name everywhere in the app.

If something is off:
Problem: The old name is still in my history
Fix: Comments keep the page they arrived on, which is correct; only the display name updates.
Problem: Two pages have the same name
Fix: Rename one on Facebook, or use page groups to tell brands apart.

Common questions:
Question: Does renaming a page on Facebook affect my rules or history?
Answer: No. The name is cosmetic; moderation, rules and history are unaffected, and comments already collected keep pointing at the same page.
Question: Why did the new page name not update by itself?
Answer: Page names are stored when a page is added and refreshed when the connection is refreshed. Renaming a page on Facebook does not push the new name to CommentWatchDog on its own; Refresh pages or a reconnect updates it.
Question: Do I have to reconnect Facebook to update a page name?
Answer: Usually not. Refresh pages, at the top of Available to add, asks Meta for the current list including names, and the new name shows in the list and in the sidebar after a reload. Reconnect only if the old name persists; it keeps all your settings.
