Guide: Turn on push notifications
This page: https://commentwatchdog.com/help/notifications/turn-on-push-notifications
Topic: Notifications and the phone app
Time: about 2 minutes
Who can do it: Anyone on your team
Author: https://anantgupta.xyz (Anant Gupta, founder of CommentWatchDog)
Start in the app: https://app.commentwatchdog.com/en/settings/notifications?tab=device
Result when done: Your device tells you when a comment needs a reply, even with the app closed.
Context: Push notifications are granted per device and per browser. One button asks your device for permission, and from then on that device receives what you choose.

Before you start:
1. Each device is separate: your phone, your laptop and your tablet each have their own switch.
2. On an iPhone the app must be on the Home Screen first.
3. A device that never opens the app stops receiving them.

Steps:
Step 1 of 3: Open This device.
Where: Settings, Notifications, then the Device side.

You should see: A card for the device you are on, and the devices that already receive notifications.

Step 2 of 3: Press Turn on notifications and allow.
Where: Your browser or phone asks once. Choose Allow.

You should see: Notifications are on for this device, with the switches for what you receive.

Step 3 of 3: Send a test.
Where: Send a test notification, under the switches.

You should see: A notification arrives within a few seconds, through the same channel every real alert uses.

If something is off:
Problem: Notifications are blocked for this site
Fix: Allow them in your browser site settings, then come back and turn them on again.
Problem: The browser asked quietly
Fix: Some browsers show only a small bell in the address bar. Click it and allow for this site.
Problem: Nothing arrives after allowing
Fix: Open the guide for notifications that do not arrive; it covers each platform.

Common questions:
Question: Do I have to allow notifications separately in each browser I use?
Answer: Yes. Push notifications are granted per device and per browser, so your phone, your laptop and your tablet each have their own switch, and so does each browser on them.
Question: Will my browser ask for notification permission more than once?
Answer: No. Your browser or phone asks once when you press Turn on notifications; choose Allow. From then on that device receives what you choose on This device.
Question: What happens if a device stops opening CommentWatchDog?
Answer: It stops receiving notifications. A device that never opens the app may no longer be registered; opening the app once on that device and sending a test brings it back.
