Guide: Install on iPhone

Topic: Notifications and the phone app
Time: about 2 minutes
Who can do it: Anyone on your team
Author: https://anantgupta.xyz (Anant Gupta, founder of CommentWatchDog)
Start in the app: https://app.commentwatchdog.com/en/settings/notifications?tab=device
Result when done: CommentWatchDog is on your Home Screen and can send you notifications.
Context: On an iPhone, notifications only work from an app on the Home Screen, and only Safari can put it there. Three taps do it.

Before you start:
1. iOS 16.4 or newer.
2. It must be Safari; other browsers cannot add to the Home Screen.
3. Notifications can only be turned on from the installed app, not from a Safari tab.

Steps:
Step 1 of 3: Open the app in Safari.
Where: Sign in at the app address in Safari on the iPhone.
Link: https://app.commentwatchdog.com/en/settings/notifications?tab=device (Open This device)

You should see: The app running in a Safari tab, with a browser bar at the bottom.

Step 2 of 3: Share, then Add to Home Screen.
Where: The Share button at the bottom of Safari, then Add to Home Screen in the list, then Add at the top right. Show me how walks through it inside the app.

You should see: The CommentWatchDog icon on your Home Screen.

Step 3 of 3: Open it from the icon and turn notifications on.
Where: Open the app from the Home Screen, then Settings, Notifications, This device, then Turn on notifications, then Allow.

You should see: Notifications are on for this device, and a test arrives within seconds.

If something is off:
Problem: There is no Add to Home Screen
Fix: You are not in Safari. Open the link in Safari and try again.
Problem: The permission never appears
Fix: You are in a Safari tab rather than the installed app. Open it from the Home Screen icon.
Problem: My iPhone is older
Fix: Notifications need iOS 16.4 or newer. The app still works in the browser without them.

Common questions:
Question: Do I need to download CommentWatchDog from the App Store?
Answer: No. CommentWatchDog is an installable web app: sign in at the app address in Safari, then Share, Add to Home Screen, Add. Only Safari can put it there, and notifications need iOS 16.4 or newer.
Question: Is there a walkthrough for adding it to the Home Screen inside the app?
Answer: Yes. Show me how, inside the app, walks through Share, then Add to Home Screen, then Add at the top right of Safari.
Question: Do I need to be the workspace owner to install the app on my iPhone?
Answer: No. Anyone on your team can install it on their own iPhone and turn notifications on there; notifications are per device.
