Guide: Install on a Mac or Windows PC
This page: https://commentwatchdog.com/help/notifications/install-on-a-mac-or-windows-pc
Topic: Notifications and the phone app
Time: about 2 minutes
Who can do it: Anyone on your team
Author: https://anantgupta.xyz (Anant Gupta, founder of CommentWatchDog)
Start in the app: https://app.commentwatchdog.com/en/settings/notifications?tab=device
Result when done: CommentWatchDog runs in its own window on your computer and can notify you there.
Context: The same app installs on a computer. It gets its own window without a browser bar, and it can send desktop notifications while it is closed.

Before you start:
1. On a Mac: Safari 16.4 or newer, or Chrome. On Windows: Chrome or Edge.
2. Notifications are per device, so your computer and your phone are set separately.
3. The installed window is the same app, signed in the same way.

Steps:
Step 1 of 3: Open the This device page.
Where: Settings, Notifications, This device. It offers Install with a line saying it opens full screen from your home screen.
Link: https://app.commentwatchdog.com/en/settings/notifications?tab=device (Open This device)

You should see: An install offer, and the list of devices already receiving notifications.

Step 2 of 3: Install it.
Where: Press Install, or use your browser own install control in the address bar.

You should see: A window without a browser bar, and the app in your dock or taskbar.

Step 3 of 3: Turn notifications on there.
Where: In the installed window: Settings, Notifications, This device, then Turn on notifications.

You should see: Desktop notifications when a comment needs a reply or a cleanup finishes.

If something is off:
Problem: There is no install control
Fix: The browser does not support it. On a Mac use Safari 16.4 or Chrome; on Windows use Chrome or Edge.
Problem: Notifications do not appear on my Mac
Fix: Check macOS notification settings for the browser or the installed app, and that Do not disturb is off.
Problem: Windows shows nothing
Fix: Check Windows focus assist and the notification settings for the app.

Common questions:
Question: Will I get desktop notifications when the CommentWatchDog window is closed?
Answer: Yes. The installed app can send desktop notifications while it is closed, when a comment needs a reply or a cleanup finishes, once you have turned notifications on in the installed window.
Question: If I set up notifications on my computer, is my phone set up too?
Answer: No. Notifications are per device, so your computer and your phone are set separately. Turn them on from Settings, Notifications, This device on each one.
Question: How is the installed desktop app different from using the browser?
Answer: It runs in its own window without a browser bar and sits in your dock or taskbar, signed in the same way as the browser. Install it from Settings, Notifications, This device, or from the address bar of Safari 16.4 or Chrome on a Mac, Chrome or Edge on Windows.
