Guide: Check their Instagram profile
This page: https://commentwatchdog.com/help/flow-conditions/check-their-instagram-profile
Topic: Conditions
Time: about 3 minutes
Who can do it: Owner, Administrator or Manager
Author: https://anantgupta.xyz (Anant Gupta, founder of CommentWatchDog)
Start in the app: https://app.commentwatchdog.com/en/inbox
Result when done: Go one way for followers, verified profiles, follower counts, a profile photo or a generated username.
Context: The profile checks read what Instagram tells a business about the person: whether they follow you and you them, whether they are verified, how many followers they have, whether they have a profile picture, their name or username, and whether the username looks generated. Useful for a VIP path, or for treating likely spam accounts differently.

Before you start:
1. Instagram only: Messenger shares only the name.
2. Instagram answers these once the person has written or tapped, so the condition goes after the private reply's tap in a comment flow.
3. If Instagram does not answer, the rule does not match.

Steps:
Step 1 of 4: Open the checks under Their Instagram profile.
Where: Add a Condition (Steps, Decide) or click one on the canvas. In its panel press Add a rule (on a fresh condition, Browse all checks). The picker opens on Most used, with the groups listed beside it: press Instagram profile, and its checks show under the heading Their Instagram profile. Search checks finds one by name.

You should see: The checks of Their Instagram profile, each with a line on what it reads. Pick one and it joins the condition as a rule, open for its details.

Step 2 of 4: Pick the check and set it.
Where: Follows you; You follow them; Verified profile; Follower count (at least, or fewer than, a number; 1,000 to start); Profile picture (Instagram's grey default picture counts as none); Name or username (contains any of your words); Auto-generated username (a run of five or more digits, more digits than letters, or user, insta or ig followed by numbers).

Screenshot: https://commentwatchdog.com/media/shots/dm-cond-profile-phone.en.webp (The same on a phone.)
You should see: Reads as: says the rule in plain words, such as 1,000+ followers or Username looks auto-generated.

Step 3 of 4: Place it where the chat is open.
Where: In a comment flow, put the condition after the private reply's way When they tap or reply. Follows you, You follow them, Verified profile, Follower count and Profile picture need the open chat; the canvas refuses them before it.

You should see: The note under the rules: Read from Instagram once they have written or tapped. If Instagram does not answer, this rule does not match.

Step 4 of 4: Wire the Yes and No ways.
Where: Yes (they match) goes to one step, No (everyone else) to another: drag from each dot on the step, or pick the step under Next steps in the panel. A way with no wire ends the flow there for those people.

You should see: Both ways lead somewhere.

If something is off:
Problem: A follower took the No way
Fix: If Instagram did not answer, the rule does not match either way. Use Ask to follow when following must be checked with a tap.
Problem: The rule never matches on the Facebook page
Fix: Facebook does not share this. The profile checks are Instagram only.
Problem: It will not connect right after the start
Fix: Instagram answers only after the person writes or taps. Move the condition after the private reply's tap.

Common questions:
Question: Can a condition check how many followers someone has?
Answer: Yes, on Instagram: Follower count, at least or fewer than a number you set.
Question: How is a generated username spotted?
Answer: A run of five or more digits, more digits than letters, or user, insta or ig followed by numbers.
Question: Can it read age, gender or location?
Answer: No. Meta does not give any of these to a business here.
