Guide: Change a flow with AI
This page: https://commentwatchdog.com/help/flow-builder/change-a-flow-with-ai
Topic: Flow builder
Time: about 3 minutes
Who can do it: Owner, Administrator or Manager
Author: https://anantgupta.xyz (Anant Gupta, founder of CommentWatchDog)
Start in the app: https://app.commentwatchdog.com/en/inbox
Result when done: An existing flow changed by asking, every change listed, and nothing touched that you did not ask for.
Context: The same chat changes a flow that already exists and answers questions about it: "add a follow check before the link", "why does the email ask come twice?". Each change is listed with its reason and shown on the canvas, a whole turn comes back with one click, and the conversation is kept with the flow, also after a reload. A live flow keeps running on its saved version while you work; your changes reach people only when you save.

Before you start:
1. Starter and above, the same as building with AI.
2. A run that has started keeps the version it started on, so an edit never lands in the middle of someone's conversation.
3. Changes stay a draft until you save.

Steps:
Step 1 of 4: Open the flow and press Build with AI.
Where: Automation tab, click the flow's row; the canvas opens. Build with AI is the first button in the bar at the top right; on a phone, the same button without its label.

You should see: The chat opens beside the canvas: What should change in this flow?

Step 2 of 4: Ask for the change, then read the turn.
Where: The box at the bottom of the panel says Change the flow, or ask anything about it. Name the step the way you see it on the canvas, and press Enter. The answer is a turn in the chat, and its first line sums it up: Worked for N s, the number of changes and the AI credits it used. A question is answered without changing anything (Thought for N s · no changes).

You should see: Each change in the chat, one line each with its reason (such as Set the start, or Added: Private reply), and on the canvas at the same time.

Step 3 of 4: Keep it or undo the turn.
Where: Under the turn, Undo this turn takes back everything that message did; Cmd+Z (Ctrl+Z) undoes one change at a time, named, like Undo: Add Message.

You should see: Undone. The flow is back to how it was before this message.

Step 4 of 4: Save to put the change live.
Where: Save at the top right; it turns green as soon as the flow has a change to keep. Every save that changed something becomes a version in Versions, so you can compare or go back later.

You should see: Saved, and a new version at the top of Versions.

If something is off:
Problem: It changed more than I asked
Fix: Press Undo this turn and ask again more narrowly, naming the step. Nothing reaches people until you save.
Problem: The changes vanished after a reload
Fix: The page reloaded before you saved. The chat offers Restore them to put the changes back on the canvas.
Problem: Building with AI is not on for this account yet
Fix: It comes with the flow builder from Starter. Move up a plan to use it.

Common questions:
Question: Does changing a live flow with AI affect people already in it?
Answer: No. A run keeps the version of the flow it started on. Your change reaches new runs only after you save.
Question: Can I ask it questions about my flow without changing it?
Answer: Yes. Ask anything about the flow; an answer with no change says Thought for N s · no changes.
Question: Is the conversation kept?
Answer: Yes. It is kept with the flow while you work, also after a reload. Clear starts a new one and leaves the flow unchanged.
